We pride ourselves on providing Independent Advocacy for adults across Dumfries and Galloway, and we are looking for new Trustees to help us shape our future and ensure we meet the targets set out in our strategic plan.
It is not necessary to have previous Board experience, as training will be provided. This would be a great opportunity for someone taking their first steps to develop their charity governance experience.
We greatly value the benefits of having different points of view and experiences on our Board and hope to receive applications from a wide range of talented people irrespective of their religion or belief, gender, age, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, political belief, relationship status or caring responsibilities.
If you have the enthusiasm and drive to help shape the future of Independent Advocacy for Adults in our region in any of the following areas:

We are seeking Volunteer Independent Advocates. The role is to provide Advocacy to vulnerable people across Dumfries & Galloway. To both empower and enable clients to be heard and to take as much control of their situation as is possible. Being an Advocate involves listening and making sure the client's thoughts and wishes are understood and that the clients voice is heard. It is about the client being in control of their own situation. As well as face-to-face client meetings there will be a requirement for updates about the progression of the client’s case. These can be either hand written, or electronic, full training will be given. You will also be required to attend meetings with the client and source information to allow the person to make informed choices. You will make a difference to other people's lives; develop new skills and meet new people and you will work alongside a small friendly team. Reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
We are seeking new individual Members for the Organisation. Members have the right to attend the (AGM) Annual General Meeting, and any (EGM) Extraordinary General Meeting and have important powers under the Articles of Association and the Companies Acts; in particular, the Members elect people to serve as Directors of the Board and take decisions in relation to changes to the Articles themselves. With Membership you are able to be nominated for a place on the Board of Directors, with the exception of Volunteer Advocates. Individuals who represent other organisations (Associate Members) with a direct interest in the affairs of the Company, shall not be eligible to vote at General Meetings of the Company.
If you would like further information about any of the above or wish to apply please contact Pamela Deans, Chief Executive on 01387 247237 or email: pamela.deans@dgadvocacy.co.uk
